Sea Day 5 – April 22, 2016

We had another great sea day today, the weather has been fantastic, with nice sunny skies, and not a lot of wind. The wind we did have was once again from the stern, but not as strong, so we had a little bit of a breeze on the open decks.

Today was like all of the other sea days, relaxing, and once again, we took the opportunity to sleep in. We did not get out and about for our breakfast until about 9:30 AM.

As usual, we wandered around the ship after eating at the buffet so that our cabin could be cleaned.

When we were able to return, we put on our bathing suits and sunscreen, and headed to the outside lounge chairs on Deck 17. Since it was a little more windy out on deck, we opted to find a more protected area. I did some laps on the jogging/walking area on Deck 18 while Stephanie relaxed in the lounge chairs. It was somewhat funny because we ran into a cloudy area about the time we got out and set up, making it much cooler. However, about the time I completed my walking, the sun came back out and remained out for the rest of the day. However, if we were out of the sunshine, it was still a little cool, since the high temperature for today was forecast to only reach about 68 degrees.

We ate a light lunch about 1:30 PM in the buffet. We did not want to eat a lot for lunch because we had planned to go to the Elite Lounge to have some long anticipated, and always missed, goat cheese appetizers. For several cruises, Stephanie has wanted to attend this function when they serve the goat cheese, but it is usually held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, earlier than we want come in from the sun and get dressed and ready for. It fit into today’s schedule since we have 6:30 PM reservations in the specialty restaurant, Sabatini’s.

We spent some time in the afternoon at the Seaview Bar, where we found out that one of the bartenders had gotten injured yesterday opening a bottled beer. Apparently he cut his hand and had to get some sutures, and he is not expected to be back at that bar until sometime next week. Obviously, the flare show that will be done in a few days will not be as good since he will be out of action.

We had a couple of drinks at the Seaview Bar and then headed to the room to get ready for dinner. Before we left, Stephanie had Franze make his version of the fresh strawberry martini for comparison to the one she had yesterday made by Rupi.

Once we were dressed and ready, we headed to the Vines Wine Bar for a glass of wine before heading to the “goat cheese” event. We had differing opinions on the value of the elite event, and on the goat cheese, but at least we can check off that as an activity that does not need to be repeated (yea!).

Since Sabatini’s is located right next to Vines, we went back to Vines for another glass of wine to take to our dinner.

Dinner was good, we both really enjoy the freshly prepared fried calamari appetizer. Service seemed a little slow and inconsistent, they really have a minimal staff to handle these dinners. There is only the waiter, they do not have assistant waiters to help out, and our waiter was serving several tables, one of which had about six guests. Stephanie had a chicken dish for dinner, and I had lobster. Both were good, but by the time we had the calamari, and a pasta appetizer, (and the goat cheese!) we were full when our main courses arrived.

We had desert, and then headed back to the Vines Bar for another glass of wine.

Next, we headed up to the Crooner’s Bar on Deck 7 in the Atrium to visit with the bartenders there and listen to the piano player again. Stephanie had two of the bartenders, who are best friends, in somewhat of a competition to make a fresh strawberry/raspberry martini. It was fun, and they even called Rupi, who had made the first one for her yesterday, up from another bar in the Atrium to make her his version for the “competition”. Everyone had fun with the impromptu event.

There was also some type of scavenger hunt going on and several couples came by the Crooners Bar, and one couple needed a photo of a man wearing lipstick, so Stephanie made me help them out by putting on lipstick for a photo. Everyone had a great laugh at my expense, but it was fun.

We were both getting tired, so we called it a night. We will be loosing another hour of time tonight, so it was even later than it felt.

We have added some photos to the Sea Days 1, 2 & 3 Photo Album, but we have not really taken many pictures on the sea days. Certainly we will have many more photos when we start getting to the ports.
