Sea Day 5 – Friday, April 7, 2017

Today’s post will be short, we did not do that much today after we stayed out too late last night on my Birthday and then slept in way too long this morning, not budging from the comfort of our bed until noon.  It was not so much that we excessively celebrated with adult beverages as much as just being out late, and we lost another hour to the time change.

We did get one benefit, we skipped breakfast all together as it was too late and all of the breakfast food was already removed from the buffet by the time we arrived, so we started the day with lunch, and skipped all of the extra calories from breakfast!

The weather was cloudy when we had gotten up, and later we learned that it had rained some earlier in the morning, which we missed entirely.  Since it was too cloudy to be outside in the sunshine, we just relaxed in some inside chairs on deck 7, Stephanie read her book while I worked on the blog, giving our cabin steward time to clean the cabin.

After that, we went back to the cabin and Stephanie took a nap while I worked on photos.  We have done a pretty good job of keeping up with the daily blog posts, but processing photos for the individual pages and for the photo albums takes more time, and uses more internet time for uploading.

We headed out later in the afternoon, and happened to see that Simon was playing guitar in the Piazza, so we stopped off in Vines and listened to him play for about an hour.  He is really amazing and a perfect type of entertainment for the Piazza, he was not too loud, the volume was low enough that you could have a conversation without shouting, not the case when full bands play there.  I had a late afternoon Pinot Grigio and Stephanie and I both had a snack from the International Cafe.

Enjoying A Margarita at the Outrigger Bar

The weather really cleared up, and the wind turned very light, so we headed outside at the stern of the ship to go to the Outrigger Bar to see Arturo.  We learned that sometime earlier in the afternoon, there had been an announcement about a whale sighting near the ship, but we had not heard anything while we were listening to music in the Piazza, so unfortunately, we missed seeing the whale(s).  However, while we were at the stern looking out at the ocean, we had seen some type of either large fish, or dolphins jumping.  They were not visible for long, so we never were able to really determine which they were.

Calm Seas and Sunshine

We visited with Arturo until he went on break at 6:00 PM, and enjoyed a couple of refreshments.  Soon after he went on break, we headed back inside, it was starting to turn a little cooler.  We headed back to the cabin to change into some better clothes for dinner.  Tonight was the second formal night, but we decided not to dress up to that level, but we did put on nicer clothes so we did not look too casual while walking around.  We got one glass of wine at Bellini’s to take to dinner in the buffet, but ended up stopping at the Wheelhouse Bar on the way to the buffet for a few minutes to visit.  We then headed upstairs to the buffet, and found that the selection of food was quite good, certainly not the lobster that was being served if we had gone to the dining room, but we would have also had to wear our more formal clothes to eat there, and that was not in the plan for tonight.

Sunset

From our table in the buffet area, we could see that the sunset was going to be nice tonight, so after we finished eating, we headed out the the Outrigger Bar area and watched the sunset with quite a few of our fellow passengers.  The sunset was around 8:40 PM, fairly late in the evening.

From there, we headed to the Wheelhouse Bar and ran into Sam and Glenda, and chatted with them for a little while.  Stephanie and I were both tired, so we made it an early evening and headed back to the cabin at about 10:00 PM.  We decided to watch a movie on the TV from the on-demand selection of recent releases, and watched “Arrival”, which was quite different, but good enough to keep us from falling asleep as we watched it from the comfort of our bed.

After the movie was over, we turned in for the night.
