Sea Day 7 – Monday, April 10, 2017

Today was another “Brunch” morning, we did not get going and out of the cabin until about 11:30 AM, after having lost yet another hour of time, totaling five one hour changes since we left Ft. Lauderdale.  The good news is that tonight is the last time change we have for the entire trip, until the flight home.

Our Current Position

After showering and getting dressed for the cooler weather that was forecasted for today, our first stop was for Stephanie to go to the jewelry store to let them know we were not purchasing the yellow diamond ring.  We were just being polite and following up with them  since we had told them to hold it until today so we could “make a decision”.  I waited outside and watched the pumpkin and watermelon carving demonstration that was taking place in the Piazza two decks down.  I had thought it would only take her  a minute in the jewelry store, but five minutes or more later, she showed back up.  Apparently, they had now offered to sell the ring at a price I had just arbitrarily thrown out yesterday when we were initially discussing the price, but yesterday they had said there was no way they could sell it for that price.  Amazing how that works, sort of made us feel like we were buying a used car.  Of course, we were still not interested, their prices are still too high and we had no time or method to do any comparison shopping to make sure.  But that had been the cause of Stephanie’s delay in returning, and made us wonder what the true lowest price really was, but not enough to spend any more of our time trying to find out.

By the time we got to the buffet for breakfast, there was only one serving line left that had breakfast items.  One breakfast line had already been converted over to lunch items.  I had breakfast items and Stephanie had lunch items for our first meal of the day.

We have decided that for the next two sea days, we will not stay out late, and will set wake up calls earlier in the morning so that we can better adjust to the time before we get to the next port, Le Havre, when we will need to be up and off the ship before 7:30 AM.

It was not a great weather day today.  There were some brief periods of rain showers, and other times where it looked like it might clear up, but did not.  It was quite cool outside, and the seas were fairly rough from the wind, but not terrible.

After breakfast (or lunch) we headed down to Deck 7 to sit in Stephanie’s favorite wrap around  high back chairs to read and work on the blog.  We ran into Zivka working at the bar/coffee station outside of the Princess Live theater and chatted with her for a few minutes before finding some open chairs.  We were there about an hour, giving our room steward time for cleaning the room.

We did not have much of a plan for the afternoon, and with the marginal weather, we decided to watch a couple of movies on the TV from the extensive on-demand list.  Stephanie had wanted to watch The Secret Life Of Pets, so that was our first movie.  It was pretty funny at times, and just OK at others.  Next on the list was Inferno, with Tom Hanks.  It was better than the first movie.

It had been a good afternoon for movie watching, especially for us since we do not ever go to movies at home, and do not rent any either.  Cruises on the newer Princess ships with on-demand movie capability on the room TV’s gives us a chance to see a lot of the newer movies.

Playing Cards In Vines – Afternoon Bellini

After the movies, we played a little cards in the room before deciding to continue playing cards at Vines while enjoying some tapas and a couple of glasses of wine.  It was peaceful in the Piazza area, the music for the afternoon was by a string quartet, and was enjoyable to listen to at a conversational volume level.

We found out that they were having  a repeat of the Mongolian Bar-B-Que in the buffet, so we headed up there to enjoy that for our dinner.  We were quite hungry since we had only eaten one meal earlier.  The Bar-B-Que was slightly different from the previous one, there were more vegetable selections and the noodles were thicker.  For some reason, they were only cooking on the woks tonight, not on the open grill surface, so it seemed a little juicier than the last time, but was still quite good.  We both had shrimp and scallops for our meat additions.

Somehow, after finishing our dinner, it was already 8:00 PM.  We had planned to go and listen to Simon in the Wheelhouse Bar, he was playing for three hours tonight, starting at 6:30 PM, so we headed in that direction.  We did not stay long because we also wanted to go to the Princess Theater to see another stand up comedian at the 9:00 PM show.

The comedian, Scott Harris, was pretty funny, he was older, probably in his early 60’s,  and the show was geared toward things he did as a kid that are so different from what kids and parents do today.  We did not stay for the whole show because we had gotten there late and had to stand in the back, but probably saw most of his performance.  We headed back to the Wheelhouse Bar for a single nightcap, and then headed to the cabin at about 10:30 PM, really 11:30 PM on tomorrow’s adjusted time.  We were trying to be in earlier tonight so we can also get up earlier tomorrow and adjust to the time a little better, but were not sure if we really accomplished that goal.

I stayed up watching the end of a previously started on demand movie, but we still set a 7:30 AM wake up call for the morning.

They had their Spring storms and we had ours. Many spring vacationers were disappointed with our weather also. It seemed much more severe this year, I guess that was because the tornado warnings were predicted to be very close. All is well here. Working in the yard.

    Love,
    Mom
