Sea Day – September 17, 2018

Today is day three of our five sea days crossing the Atlantic.  We expected a nice night at sea, based on the Captain’s forecast from yesterday, along with the nice calm day we had yesterday. However, the seas continued to build through the evening, and it was fairly rough overnight, with winds of 30 knots and seas of 4.5 meters, per the Captain’s noon report today.

We got ready, and decided to change it up a bit, and headed to the buffet for breakfast at about 9:00 AM.  It was really crowded, and we had a tough time finding a table to sit at before we went to get our food.  I wanted a specialty coffee, but the line was too long, so I got my food and took it back to the table.  Then Stephanie got hers, we were afraid we would lose the table if we both left at the same time to get our breakfast.

I went back for the specialty coffee after I ate my breakfast, and the line was much shorter.  We headed down to the Captain’s Circle Host and to Guest Services to take care of a couple of issues.  We had never received an invitation to the Captain’s Circle reception, and tonight was the last one for the cruise. According to the representative, we were supposed to attend the event after the port stop in Kristiansand, but we never got our invitation.  We selected the 7:00 PM event for tonight, and then headed over to inquire about our Disembarkation Form at Guest Services.  We had seen all of our neighbors receive their forms yesterday, but our never arrived, and was not in our mail slot this morning either.  We wanted to make sure we received the walk off disembarkation so that we did not have to pack up our suitcases and place them out for collection the night before.  With those items completed, we headed to the last of the super clearance shopping events in one of the dining rooms.  There was a better selection of items today, but there was still nothing we wanted from the sale.

We headed up to Deck 16 to the Outrigger Bar to see if the weather was tolerable outside there like it had been yesterday.  The sunshine was intermittent, and although breezy on deck, it was fairly protected on the stern of the ship.  We still needed pullover windbreakers, but it was a decent temperature, and not too windy there.  We had a couple of drinks there and decided to go to the sit down lunch in the dining room, which we have never done on any previous cruises.  The menu looked good and we went down to the dining room about thirty minutes after the lunch started.

We had a little bit of wait for a two person table, we just did not feel like having lunch with a lot of strangers.  The lunch was actually very good, with much better service than at dinner, and the food was much hotter.  We both had the fried mozzarella cheese sticks, New England clam chowder, and a chicken with bacon club sandwich, and of course a glass of wine.

After lunch, we headed back to the cabin.  Stephanie wanted to take a nap, and I worked on the blog, adding some more photos to the albums and featured images to the posts.  It was really windy in the afternoon, and the sunshine disappeared about 5:00 PM.

We got ready to go to the Captain’s Circle reception that started at 7:00 PM.  We first headed to Vines for a glass of wine and tapas beforehand.  We knew that we did not need to head to the reception until right at 7:00 PM, there is always a long line to get into the Vista Lounge where it is held.  We headed there about 5 minutes before seven, and there was still a line of people entering.  The reception was nice, it is always interesting to hear about new developments and new ships in the Princess Fleet.

After the reception, we headed upstairs for the Tex-Mex Buffet in the Horizon Court.  We were still a little full from lunch and the tapas at Vines, so we did not eat that much.  We then headed to Crooners for a couple of drinks.

There was a performer named Josh Young performing in the Princess theater at 10:00 PM. He was listed as a Broadway Star and Tony Award Nominee, and his show was a musical journey using songs from Andrew Lloyd-Webber.  We  arrived just as the show was beginning, and stood in the back at the entrance for a few songs.  The show was good, but we did not stay until the end.  He did not sing the songs as originally written, they were entwined in some stand-up comedy, and different lyrics he made up and sang with the popular tunes.

We headed to the Princess Live Bar to visit with Fabian and Marco, the bartenders there.  While we were there, Josh Young, the performer stopped by and we talked with him for a few minutes.  It was getting late, so we headed back to the cabin, and started watching a movie, Black Panther.  We were too tired to watch it all, so we turned it off, and went to sleep.  We will try and finish it another night.
