Sea Day 2 – April 19, 2016

Once again, we awoke to windy conditions as we head across the Atlantic Ocean. The winds changed directions slightly, but are still mainly from the Northwest and are almost perpendicular to the direction the ship is heading, making for a rolling ride on the ship.  We had hoped that the winds would be more from the stern, making for both a smoother ride, and less windy conditions out on the open decks.  The ship’s weather forecast given at noon yesterday had predicted that the winds would be more in that direction, but it was not enough to make it that much better.

We really slept in today, and with the additional change in time, it was almost 10:00 AM on the adjusted time before we got up.  Although the time of day indicated we slept in, our bodies still felt like it was 8:00 AM, so we were not getting any benefit in reality.

By the time we showered and got dressed for breakfast, it was after 11:00 AM ship’s time.  There apparently were a lot of other people experiencing the same time shift issues as us, the buffet was still crowded for breakfast, even though they were already starting to shift over for lunch.

After breakfast, we put on our bathing suits and applied some sunscreen before heading out to find some sunshine out on deck.  It was much sunnier today than yesterday and a little warmer, about 75 degrees.  It was almost hot today as compared to yesterday out in the deck chairs in the protected area we had found on the ship yesterday .  The noon weather report indicated that the wind was blowing around 35 knots, and we had about 10-12 foot seas.

At about 2:00 PM, I decided to go to the Gym to do my exercising on the elliptical.  Stephanie decided she would exercise her right to take a nap in the sunshine.  I headed back to the room to change into my exercise clothes and shoes and had a nice elliptical ride at the gym.

Afterwards, we went and got some lunch.  It was pretty late, so we did not want to eat a big meal that late in the afternoon, with dinner looming.

Tonight is the first of our two formal nights on this cruise, and tonight is the Commodore’s Reception in the Atrium, starting at 7:15 PM.

After lunch, we sat out in the sun for a little longer before heading to the same area as we had late in the day yesterday, the comfy couches on the aft area of Deck 16.  We had a couple of glasses of White Zinfandel wine and enjoyed the view.

It had started to get more cloudy later in the day, and the ship headed through several heavy rain showers.  We were in a covered area, so it did not impact our enjoyment of the view out the stern of the ship.

It was time to head back to the cabin to get cleaned up and dressed in our formal wear for the Commodore’s Reception.  After getting ready, we headed to the Atrium about 6:45 PM, and found a couple of seats at the Bellini’s Bar.  We had a couple of glasses of white wine and watched the big Champagne Waterfall event.  Then, Commodore Giuseppe Romano introduced his staff.  It was certainly not as crowded as we have seen on other ships.  Most of the attendees were dressed in formal wear, but others were not.  I think a lot of people opted not to bring the extra formal clothes for this trip, and that reduced the attendees at this event.

We headed to the Vines Wine Bar for another glass of wine and their Tappas, which are always pretty good.  By this time, the reception was over and the crowds dispersed for dinner.  We did not want to take the time to go to the dining room, so we headed to the Alfredo’s Pizzeria on Deck 6.  We enjoyed a nice dinner there once again, and it was nice and quiet, and the service was great.

We walked around a little after dinner and had a couple of small deserts from the International Cafe before having a nightcap in the Crooners Lounge.  There was an entertainer playing piano music and singing which we enjoyed for a time before heading back to the cabin to retire for the evening.  We do not change time tonight, thank goodness, so maybe we will actually be able to sleep in tomorrow morning and get some real benefit.

We have made changes so that the clock on the main page will reflect our actual time here onboard.
