Planning Update – August, 2015

We have just 30 days left before we head to Ft. Lauderdale to begin our newest adventure.  Most of the research has been done for determining what we will try and do while in the various port stops for both cruises.

Since we have not visited many of the ports of call on these cruises, we were not really aware of what was available to visit on the various islands, so it took a fair amount of time reading about the islands and their respective sights.

Of course, the internet was an invaluable tool in finding information form others who have visited the location on past cruises, and most of the islands have their own tourism webpages with information on what to see on their islands.

Most of the islands have some type of public bus system that can be used or getting to various destinations.  Some of the bus systems are run by the island’s government, but some are run as independent companies, but under some agreement with the local government.  Some are just independent operators.  However, no matter who is running the bus system, there are specific routes and schedules for most.  We will be utilizing the buses on several of the islands, they are much less expensive than hiring a taxi.

We are currently signed up for two excursions, one on the island of St. Lucia, and one on the island of Grenada.  On these particular islands, there we several sights to see, but transportation was very limited, so we opted for these local tours after reading about them from reviews on Cruise Critic and TripAdvisor.  Both of these tours appear to operate from smaller sized vans, so hopefully, we will not be in too large of groups.

For the other islands, we will either visit some local historical sights, such as forts, or head to local beaches to relax and snorkel.
