Planning Update – June 30,2021

Below is a Google Map showing the route we plan on driving for the Grossglockner High Alpine Highway (in German Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße), located in Austria.  We are staying at the Sagritzerwirt Hotel in Großkirchheim (Point A on Map) on the night before we start the drive (September 23, 2021) and then staying at the Hotel Post Fusch in Fusch an der Glocknerstraße after the end of the drive the next day.  The actual start of the highway is point B on the map.

There are several scenic stops on the highway and several places to hike, so it will be a full day of travel even though the driving route is not very long itself, only 48 km.  We will be driving both the blue route and the green route shown on the map.  The red lines are hiking trails, some of which we may do, or partially do.

There is a fee of Euro 37.50 for the drive which can be purchased online ahead of time as a voucher and then turned in at the toll gate to the highway.

Note:  Clicking the small square on the right of the greenish header will open the map in a larger window.  You can scroll  or click the +/- to zoom in the map shown below.  Many of the scenic stops and hikes are shown in more detail when the map is zoomed in.
