Planning A 15 Day Land Trip To Alaska in 2023 – July 20, 2022

Our friends Ashley and Bryan traveled to Alaska in 2021, and had a great trip.  We visited with them and looked at their beautiful pictures and discussed what a great time they had on that trip and the next thing we knew, we were all planning to go to Alaska in July, 2023.

Since Ashley had done all of the planning for that previous trip, and I know nothing about travelling in Alaska, she agreed to put the trip together, but also include any input we may have had on places to visit.  Since we did not really know where to go, we gladly went along with the itinerary she put together.

The trip will be 15 days, from July 1 to July 15, 2023.  We will fly in and out of Anchorage. We will be visiting some of the same locations Ashley and Bryan visited in 2021, they had such a great time and wanted to return there and let us share in those same experiences.  We will also be visiting a couple of new places, mainly around Seward, Alaska, which was not part of the itinerary on their previous trip.

Since most of the accommodations at places we plan to stay are small accommodations, not large hotels, and since Alaska is so popular to visit, we needed to go ahead and make all of the reservations this summer, and that has been accomplished, mainly by Ashley. there is only one place where I made a reservation, at Asta Suites in Seldovia, Alaska. Stephanie and I will be staying there, and Ashley and Bryan will be staying nearby. The Asta Suite can only sleep two adults, but has wonderful views form their large patio. We will all share and enjoy the scenic views from the Asta Suite, but sleep in separate accommodations due to size.

It is too early to make flight reservations, we still need to wait about five more weeks until the trip dates for both the flight there and back are within the range of the airline system’s reservations timeframe.

Again, due to popularity of travel to Alaska, Ashley has also already rented our vehicle, a Chevy Tahoe.  This will give us enough room for the four of us, our luggage and also for taking groceries and other supplies to a couple of the more remote accommodations where there are not really any large grocery stores available.

The itinerary will be added in a separate post, as well as a list of our accommodations. Eventually, we will add more detail on each of the places we are visiting and what we plan to do in each location.

We are excited to be going to Alaska, we now just have to have patience while we wait almost a year to go.  This will leave plenty of time to figure out the details and any excursions we want to look into and reserve.

It will be a different trip for us, especially for me since I was not as involved with the initial planning details, but that is quite alright, I did not have to spend hours doing research and trying to put the trip together either….Thanks Ashley!!
