Sea Day 2 – January 30, 2017

It was another pretty morning when we awoke on Sea Day number two.  Of course, we slept in again, not really having anything specific to do today but relax.

Once again, I headed to the International cafe for our breakfast sandwiches, coffee and diet Coke while Stephanie slept just a little longer.  There was quite a lot of other people there getting food and coffee from the specialty coffee bar.  We discovered that if you tell the sandwich server to heat your sandwiches “well”, they will keep them on the heated sandwich press a lot longer, and they actually get heated all the way through.  If not, they are still a little cold in the middle.

After eating our breakfast, we decided to skip the walking today, and apply our sunscreen and head directly out to the pool deck and sit in the sunshine.

Ryan still had some work to do, so Beth, Stephanie and I enjoyed the sunshine and a few refreshments during the afternoon.

We all went back to our respective rooms to get ready for dinner.  Tonight, we decided to go to the dining room since they were serving scallops, one of my favorites, and usually worth thge effort of getting dressed and eating in the the dining room.

We first met in Vines for some Tapas and Sushi.  I went down early to get us a table for four while Stephanie finished getting ready.  The service in Vines was the worst we have ever experienced on a ship.  When I ordered one of their nicer wines, always served in the nicer Riedel stemware, my wine was brought out in one of the normal everyday glasses.  In addition, the wine was not fresh, so I sent it back.  There have been many occasions where we are served last nights leftover wine, and it is too hot on the ships, especially in the Caribbean, for it not to spoil overnight.  I was finally offered a better glass, but still not the ones that are normally served for red wine at Vines.  I may seem that this is petty, but their signature menu description states that they use fine Riedel crystal for all of their wines, and this has never been an issue for us in any other Vines Bar on other ships.

Once Ryan, Beth and Stephanie arrived, we all ordered some of the free tapas and sushi.  This is the best part of the Vines on this ship, the tapas were the best we have ever had, and the Regal and Royal Princess ships ships did not offer fresh sushi in their Vines Bars.

After a couple of glasses of wine, we headed to the dining room on the same deck, only to find that there was a wait to be seated We were issued a pager that would work anywhere in the atrium, and headed to Crooners for another glass of wine, one of our favorites that they do not serve at Vines or in the Dining room.  We waited about 20 minutes before our pager went off, indicating our table was ready.

Having Fun at Crooner’s

We headed to the dining room and were seated and a really nice table for six next to a window.  Unfortunately, it was too dark outside to get much benefit from the window, but the table was located in a quiet corner, away from the serving stations.  The dinner was nice, the scallops were good, and I had a double order.  Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and we felt that it was a nice experience.

Stephanie and Beth at Crooner’s

Beth wanted a special blizzard type milkshake, so we stopped by and got some cookies from the buffet, then headed to the Neptune Bar for a shot of Bailey’s, and we took all of these to the ice cream parlor, and they made a milkshake out of the added ingredients, plus their ice cream.

Next, we headed to Crooner’s for a nightcap.  We are in our first port of call tomorrow, Curacao, and have an eight hour excursion planned, so we did not want to stay out too late.  It was not long before we headed back to our cabins for the night.
